Terry Talented

The pun in the title is corny but there's no denying it; Terry Richardson is very very talented indeed. Incase you're completely at a loss with regards to what it is that he's good at, it is photography. His photos, with the signature white wash background, have a way of "telling it like it is" to such a blatant extent that they occasionally come across as crude. Terry takes portraits (his "speciality") that are simply good photos - it's innexplainable - they have a way of not only capturing the moment but you feel something when you look at them; the atmosphere inside the lens is undoubtedly electric.  So much so that it gets to the point where you feel as if you're viewing the actual shoot.

The Green Fairy

No I am not talking about absinthe, I am talking about the emerald - May's birthstone. As a tribute to all of you May Babies out there I have decided to dedicate this post to looking at emeralds both in actual jewelry and in the form its enchanting hues. The emerald is without a doubt my absolute favourite stone, the dark blue sapphire is a close second, probably because I love the rich and glamorous colours in antique jewelry. Just my luck that my birthday is the 3rd of July. Ruby is my third favourite but I still envy my mother (born on the 3rd of May). Personal preferences aside, I think that the deep yet refreshing tone of emerald's green is probably best worn in Autumn or Winter due to its incredible richness (so right now it's yay for the Southern Hemisphere!). I personally think that getting your hands on a pair of good quality, simple emerald pumps would be a wise investment, a scarf, a classic coat; the possibilities are endless. Warning: too much green is not a good thing. Please do not humiliate yourself by leaving your building looking like the Grinch who stole Christmas; it is a fashion statement but not necessarily a pleasant one. Okay I think I've rambled on about this colour quite enough so do what the world is daily forcing down our throats: Go Green!

XXL

It may seem like I just can't find my right size but beleive it or not it's actually intentional: as always bigger is better! Only for your top half of course because no one looks good in baggy pants (unless they're boyfriend jeans or harem pants). An oversized button up shirt paired with super flattering streamline pants or even stockings is both stylish and incredibly comfortable. Who says fashion is pain? As we are going into winter (down here in South Africa at least) another useful item to have at the top of your pile is an oversized knitwear jersey or two. A brightly coloured one looks amazing when worn with earthily hued bottoms, for example: olive green, tan, brown, navy etc. with cobalt blue, tangerine or emerald green. Take my nugget of stylish wisdom: Go Big or Go Home.
